Slumdog Millionaire
I’ve been watching a lot of movies. Hollywood hit movies. Yes, this is a strange phenomenon. It is my recent discovery of redbox. I venture to Walmart practically everyday just so I can rent new hit releases for a dollar – or even for free.

I recently rented Slumdog Millionaire at the redbox. I did not know anything about this movie prior to watching it. I saw a picture on the side of redbox of what looked like a spinoff of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” I figured, hey, why not? I like “Who wants to be a Millionaire.” A movie based on “Who wants to be a millionaire” has to be good, right?
Well, this movie was amazing. It surpassed every expectation I had. However, what expectation did I have for this film? I did not even know this film existed until I saw the side preview of it. Little did I know this movie has won 8 Oscars. Wow. I apparently missed the hype of this movie, but when I think back to several months ago, I never even heard of this movie. I thought Slumdog Millionaire was a B-side movie that no one has ever heard. Maybe, it’s because I live in a small town and “big” movies such as Slumdog never gets mentioned. However, I believe Slumdog is still not as acclaimed as say “Watchmen.”
The premise of the story is about an Indian man named Jamal from the slums of Mumbai who is one question away from winning a million dollars on “Who wants to be a millionaire.” Several think Jamal cheated his way to the 500,000 dollar question. In actuality, it was Jamal’s experiences that made him capable of answering the questions.
Why do I adore this movie?
A) The compelling story
B) The innocent romance involving the two main characters
C) The fantastic audio editing
D) It is my destiny to enjoy this video
I loved everything about this movie. The plot was compelling, the characters were enjoyable, and the music did not hurt my eardrums. I must admit, the Pussycat Dolls version of Jai Ho should definitely not exist. Thank God that song was not in the film. My disbelief was somewhat suspended when Salim, Jamal, and Latika knew how to speak perfect English. This bothered me. The director should have made the entire movie in Hindi (which the DVD version might have provided). This bothered me. This, I feel, made the movie loose some of its authenticity towards the end. Jamal spoke in Hindi the entire first part of the film. Why could he not have spoken in Hindi towards the later?
Other than that, everyone, and I mean everyone, should watch this film. It was so fantastic that I want to go and rent it again.
D) It is my destiny to enjoy this film.
