Earthbound Zero = Hard!

I’ve been playing Mother 1/Earthbound Zero in my spare time.  It has to be one of the most frustrating games I have ever played.  I’m not sure if all NES games are frustrating or if Mother 1 likes to really piss me off?  My boyfriend is playing Final Fantasy VI while I am playing Mother 1.  I’m extremely jealous at how EASY Final Fantasy VI looks compared to Mother.  He seems to be progressing in terms of plot.  As for me, I spend several long, agonizing hours grinding my characters.  Loid dies.  Ana dies.  Ana dies.  Ana dies.  Fuck, Ana why can’t you live longer?  Why do you have to be fucking level 1 when I obtain you?

Why do I get frustrated with Earthbound Zero?
- When I obtain a new party member, they do not start out as level 10 or level 20.  They start with fucking level 1.
-  There are two enemies.  If I defeat one enemy, my stupid party members will not attack the other enemy if the prior enemy died.  I actually have to plan out on who Ana/Loid/Ninten fight.  Really freaking annoying.
-  My rom seemed to have corrupted at some point and it didn’t save completely.  I had to fight this hard Dragon twice :(.
-  In some areas, the enemies are quite easy.  In some areas, they are the hardest things to beat.  Holy shit.
-  Grinding.  When I want to grind, the enemies are never there.  When I don’t, the enemies appear after every step I take.
-  The maps.  Why are NES lands so huge?  D:!
-  No clear direction on what to do next
-  No clear direction on what PSI spells does what (I love you internet)
-  Teleporting.  Yes, it’s supposed to be a “nice” spell but why does Ninten need so much ROOM to teleport!  AIOURAOWEJHWOI~!!@!@*)!(@&!!!!

Despite these reasons, I actually adore Earthbound Zero.  It makes me feel hardcore when I say, “I am about to beat Earthbound Zero.”  I’ll feel even more hardcore when I actually beat it.  Technically, I could make this game a whole lot easier for me by downloading an easy patch.  What fun is that?  Maybe, I am just a masochist.  I heard the most frustrating part comes next.  Goody, I cannot wait.  I also heard the final two areas are the most frustrating part of the game.  This scares me a bit.

It’ll definitely be worth it in the end.  I just know it.
